    COURSE DESCRIPTION

This class is for the actor who wishes to explore the craft of adding dialect to their performance in order to create fuller, more engaging characters.

By exploring the mechanics of sound and understanding how Dialect informs character, Actors will learn the tools that will enable them to navigate away from their natural dialect and acquire new accents. This course is focused on establishing the building blocks of dialect work, with a particular emphasis on two of the more frequently called upon accents for performers working in Canada today, Received Pronunciation (RP) & General American (GenAm).

WHO IS TOM MORTON? - Tom Morton began acting at the age of 15 in the UK, and got his big screen break when he was cast in French filmmaker Isabelle Mergault’s Enfin Veuve in 2007. He worked extensively in France both on screen and on stage, whilst also lending his voice to a wide range of animation, video-game and documentary projects.

Since relocating to Canada in 2019, Tom has continued to work as an actor and voice artist. He has also pursued and developed his passion for Dialect work, and has coached actors for film, TV and the stage, as well as for auditions.

Tom works in both English and in French.

All class format, content, core values, techniques and drills were created and developed by Lewis Baumander.
