Coach: Marcia Bennett
Marcia knew at age 9 that she wanted to be an actress. She was fortunate to have smart, dedicated teachers in both elementary and high school in Indiana, her home state, who were devoted to the creative arts and were allowed by the school system to teach full-time drama classes and schedule extracurricular time to direct school plays. They demanded the best from the students, and their hard work inspires Marcia to this day. A professional actress for 47 years, Marcia has memberships in ACTRA, SAG-AFTRA, CAEA, and AEA. She has a both a BA and Masters degree in theatre. (U. of Evansville, IN, and U. of Mo.) Her film and television work are extensive, most recently playing the mother of Phyllis Schlafly (Cate Blanchett) in the FX series, MRS. AMERICA. With over 134 TV and film credits, Marcia has experience in all genres of film acting, as well as directorial styles, and the very business of preparing for auditions and on-set requirements. Personally, memorable TV and film roles were that of May Silverstone in the first season of the award-winning SLINGS AND ARROWS, and the scary Ms. Mackinaw in THE WOODS. As a theatre performer, she is proud of her nomination for a Dora Award in Aluna Theatre’s production of MADRE, in which she played the title role. Marcia’s training, love of language, innate curiosity and appreciation of the writer’s intention ensure that no actor leaves a session confused about the script. Her style of teaching is passionate, fun and caring. Marcia has a proven ability to help actors dig deep for truths and bring their own personal stamp of creativity and authenticity to auditions and performances. This is her 6th year of happy association with LB Acting Studio.
