“Just a couple of sessions with Joy really helped me find my ‘voice’. In particular, her assistance in bringing out an American dialect has been really beneficial… Working with Joy is a breath of fresh air!” – Peter Valdron, Actor
“Thank you so much for both the Working With Dialects Level I & Level II classes. I feel like I walked away with some great tools and definitely more confidence in myself when it comes to my ability to do accents in general!” -Hailey Birnie, Actor
“This year I had the opportunity to record my first album as a singer in LA, California. We worked on the mixing of the material in Toronto, Canada. During this trip I realized how important it is to my work as an actress and singer to manage the English language and the American Accent in particular. I found Joy Juckes at the Lewis Baumander Acting Studio, and she opened me up to a new world of voice & accents. I am an actress and singer from Chile, and I had the luck of having taken English lessons from a young age, but I hadn’t realized how strong my Latin accent was.
Joy taught me many things, but the most important thing I took with me was that, even though a strong accent can be a challenge in this industry, at the same time, it can be a very powerful tool. It can teach you about yourself and your body, because the voice and the accent are a part of each individual’s story and our instrument used to portray it.” – Andrea Velasco, Singer/Actor
“I’m so happy to be part of the Lewis Baumander family. I say family because everyone is so caring about the students. You will never feel like just a number and will never leave the studio feeling bad about yourself. All of that while learning a lot. Until you find a studio that has adapted to your needs you can’t stop looking for it and I know I found mine. When I signed in for accent/dialect coaching with Joy I wasn’t expecting what was coming… Just working on words pronunciation? NO NO. You will learn so much about your body and yourself. Your breathing, your habits, your tensions, how all of that translates in front of the camera… But also the differences between dialects and all the scientific things to help you understand it. This is not a random accent coaching. I could go on and on about how awesome Joy is as a teacher and a person but I recommend you to see for yourself, even if you don’t need to correct an accent. I know I’ll stay close to her long after I master my accent.” – Melody Balet, Actor
“I loved the chance I had to work one-on-one with Joy Juckes for a production last fall, and loved her Dialects class at LB Acting Studio this spring just as much! She provides solid information and the kind of help that makes you feel good about what you are doing while helping you let go of anything holding you back. You WILL know your GA and RP dialects by the end of classes. Everything made sense, and I appreciate the wealth of printed information she provided to go with what we learned in class. I am grateful for both opportunities and look forward to any chance to work with Joy again. Highly recommend!” – Lawrene Denkers, Actor
